BACKGROUND

Nine fouled heat exchangers with very low efficiency needed reconditioning. Due to the inefficiency of the heat exchangers, extra pumps for cooling were being used to achieve desired efficiency. Previously, the customer used strong acids in combination with manual dismantling of the exchangers. Despite this, the problem of low exchangers efficiency persisted.

RESULTS

After cleaning the nine exchangers had improved their efficiency by 2-4°C per exchanger, enough to allow one of the three pumps to be shut down. This gave an annual saving of about NOK 200 000 (close to EUR 25 000) in reduced electricity consumption.
